I have a 99 volvo penta 3.0L with est ingition. It seems to fire and run well while motoring with the starter however will not stay running with starter disengaged.

1. Does the est have a seperate starting and run function?

2. May be the shift interrupt. Where is it located and what does it look like?

3. Also had carb issues (flooding, Holley 2bbl) so adjusted float setting. Could this be an issue? Its def not running rich now, maybe too lean??
Thanks!

No shift interrupt on Volvos.

Disconnect the connector that has the purple and gray wire at the coil. With the key on, you should have 12V at the purple wire. If you don't, check the safety lanyard and/or your ignition switch. The purple wire will also get energized during cranking so that is why it appears that your engine wants to start.

check your emergency stop switch, while cranking its bypassed and will start until you let go of the key.

Update: question about est ignition GM 3.0L

Update: question about est ignition GM 3.0L

The kill switch was it!! Thanks guys for the expert advise. NOW back to my original problem...it idles like crap, and missing at all RPMS. Will not idle below 800 RPM.
I think I have it isolated to the number two cylinder. When I pull the wire on the #2 cyl there is absolutely no change in idle roughness or speed. The other three will cause the engine to nearly die when pulled.
Think it is an ignition problem as the number 1 cylinder was the one missing before I pulled all the plugs and wires to check. Here is what ive done so far.

1. Compression test on all cylinders. They are 135 and very uniform as they should be-its a brand new crate engine.

2. Set initial timing-have tried slighly adjusting the distributor with no improvement.

3. All new plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor, coil.

Swap plug wires if they are long enough to see if the problem follows the wire. Might want to try the same thing with the plug although that's not very likely unless you gapped it completely wrong.

Update on the rough idle:

1. Pulled and swapped the #1 and #2 plugs and wires, now missing one the #1 instead of #2.

2. Swapped back the #1 and #2 wires only, no difference.

3. Swapped back the #1 and #2 spark plugs, miss went back to the #2 which tells me I have a bad plug. Inspected the plug and sure enough there is a very very small crack in the porceline that you can barely see but feel with your fingernail. Will be installing new plugs tommorow.
Local auto parts store do not carry the ac delco mr43lts plug so called local marine shop. They said the number has changed to r42lt does anyone konw if this is true?
Thanks
