Hello

I have a 1997 yamaha waveraider.... I can trickle charge the battery and take the ski to the lake and it will run fine for a couple hours... then if it sits for a bit the battery will be dead and it will not start at all and it needs to be jumped

Last night i trickle charged the battery and then this morning i went to go see if it started and i noticed that on the negative terminal every time i hit the start button it threw out massive sparks...

What could this mean?

It means either your negative battery cable is almost corroded through, or the connection is loose. You need to also check to see if the alternator is working, battery voltage should go up when engine is running. Fix the cable first though, that is probably the main cause of problems...

alternator?

the spark issue sounds like either a loose connection or corrosion has built up between the wire end and the battery terminal. disassemble and clean with a wire brush.

as far as not holding a charge, check the voltage regulator

Sorry, CHARGING system.... include all equipment involved in the generation of electrical current on the craft...
