Correct exhaust shutters??

While trying to run down an overheating problem I discovered that one of my engines didn't have exhaust shutters and it wasn't the one overheating.

Took the serial number of the 1994 engine (OF115xxx, V-6 LX, 4B carbs) to the dealer. They "special ordered", so no can return, a pair of # 807166A3.
Guess what, they don't fit, wrong style. From looking at the pictures in the service manual, I have the "later style".

Both engines have the same type Y pipes on them. Not a hole for the shutters but a slot and a grommet in the square hole at the bottom of it.
Looking at parts for different years and later serial numbers of the same engines I find parts numbers of 807166A1 and 807166A2 on other models.

Any way of telling what the correct part number is for the shutters I need?

If it helps, it is a 2 piece manifold as the 1994 diagrams show.

For an original 1994 exhaust system that is the right number. If you have the slots in the top of the Y-pipe, then you have a 1996 y-pipe and the part # is -807166A2.

achris,
Thanks for the response.

Can you tell me the difference between the 807166A2 and 807166A1?

mercruiserparts.com is showing the 807166A1 for a 1996 thru 1998.

Is there someplace else to look up parts and/or cross reference?

A2 used with one piece manifold and A1 used with 2 piece manifold. (I suspect they are actually the same)....

Mine has the 2 piece manifold so I guess A1 is the one I need.

Thanks again.
