Have a 1988 Johnson 60 VRO. From idle is very sluggish and most always have to hit the selonoid that squirts fuel into the carbs or cylinders (push on the key) to get it to take off (or it dies when throttle is pushed forward). Seems to run fine at speed. Does not get much uses and this condition started a few years ago only occuring occasionally. Now it is consistent. Assuming compression is still good as it tested fine 2 years ago. Have replaced electronic fuel pump.
Is this most likely a carburator issue requiring a rebuild?
Also this motor seems "tired" in that if there is more than me in the boat takeoff is very slow going up to plane. Are there power heads of higher HP such as 75 that would bolt up to the motor?
This is my first post. Thank you to all who respond.
