99 dt 140 grinds going in forward

I have dt 140 that grinds when shifting in forwards. It does not do it when shifting to reverse. I just put the foot on it. When I had the foot off my Lil brother took the bolt off the shift rod. It's the bolt with the slot that hooks the To the shift rod in the foot. I tried to put it back where it was. How can I fix this.

Not shifting into gear before the RPM,s come up. Make an adjustment at the coupling nut that you have spoken of.
Can't remember if the action is up or down to move into forward gear, but you can see this and adjust accordingly. No biggie.
