Hi. I Have a 1960 Johnson motor that has been sitting for 13 years.I have been trying to pull the flywheel, but its not budging. Should I pull harder, or am I missing something?

Are you using the harmonic balancer puller with the (3) 1/4 -20 bolts?
If you are then pull harder, then tap on the center of the puller to try to get it to pop.
If you are using another type of puller, please quit or you'll break or ruin the flywheel.

Be sure you are using Grade-8 bolts, screwed in 7/16", no more and no less. Then give it heck. It will come off, but not if you are timid.

I just pulled mine yesterday, 1960 40 johnson. definitley dont be timid with it and you have to smack the end of the puller to get it to come loose. just make sure the flywheal dosnt fly up and bust your chin open when it lets loose.

Those 40hp motors are buggers to get to pop. The smaller motors are a little easier. Leave the flywheel nut on loose to keep the flywheel from "flying" and keep tightening a little at a time. Eventually she'll pop.

Seconding not being timid with it. I was stuck until I tightened it way up and gave it a whack. Then it popped right off!
