Noticed last night our dog (Amber) has a small hole in her side.

We looked and couldn't figure it out. Though a BB gun, stick, some garden fencing in the back yard.
I searched the net and couldn't find anything on this.

While at work I take another look. A gal at work though Pinworms. Nope wrong area, but I expand and found our Amber has Cuterebra - Parasite
http://www.gundogdoc.com/library/cuterebracase.html (if you dont like little worms, dont click, (Looks like wax worms))

If you look there you can see the exact wound she has. It's almost as they took a picture of our dog. My wife is calling the Vet to make an appointment.

Re: Our dog has a hole/wound

We just got back from the vet. Re quick procedure.

Bot Fly. The hole is actually an air hole for the worm. When we put her on the vet table we seen the worm stick it's head out and go back in.

He said it's more found in cats then in dogs. He also said he pulled 3 of them out this week already. The fly's are laying eggs more because of all the rain we've gotten here in Central WI.
Since this one was wiggling like crazy he had to make a tiny incision and remove it that way. Cleaned up the area, and put one sucher in.

Showed me the little bugger. Looks like a small wax worm you fish with.
She'll recover nicely..

I dont have an current pics of here but here she is:

Yep, we call 'em Warbles....They are common wild animals around her...We have a free range pet rabbit in out back yard. He got 'em a few years ago. We squeezed a half a dozen or so outta his hide.

I was wondering the same thing:D. Put it on a jig and bring in a big ol' Crappie;)

Glad it was nothing more serious. You see some pretty strange things having pets.

Re: Our dog has a hole/wound

I saw them things on tv. a program called 101 wierd things removed from the body. a lady was on vacation in south america and got bit by a mosquito. apparently the mosquito laid a bot fly larvae in her head where it bit her. when she got back to the states it looked just like that. she went to the doctor and they shaved the spot and put some celophane over it eventually the larvae had to dig its way through the plastic or suffocate, came right out. pretty gross though. also u shoulda seen the 2 guys on the scooter pinned to gether by a piece of fence post.

Yeah.. I watched a show like that not too long ago where this teenager was going blind in one eye. Turned out a fly layed its eggs on his eye. He had one of those buggers in his eye feeding off his retina. His blindness was coming from blood inside his eyeball.
