remove shift and throttle links, remove all electrical rigging connectors, remove the trim motor leads from the relay, remove the fuel line, remove the lower apron remove all the power head mounting bolts, all are upside down and when unscrewing head for the dirt.
remove the tell tale water line and it should be about ready to lift.
pump is mounted in the midsection.

What a challenge!!!! We finally got engine lifted. Everything as you said ,except that XX!OO!!?XO Spline was seized solid in the crank. We finally loosened the lower end. It wouldn't budge either.had 2 guys bouncing on lower unit while 3rd guy was winching engine straight up and air hammering drive shaft.with ALOT of work we finally broke it loose.sure wonder were the grease was ? Anyway long story short i got to oil pump. all splines were striped in pump. shaft also showing wear.will order both. Engine has 1000hrs on it.this is its first major repair. Thanks for the response rodbolt.:D

This is why it is good to do preventative maintenance on these motors. If you pull the lower unit to replace the water pump often and grease the shaft as they say to it should not get stuck like that.
It does not sound good to have the oil pump spines stripped, did the pump lock up or what happened?

Oil pump was in perfect condition. the spline in the collar was striped. probably caused by no grease.only changed impeller once, thats been yrs ago .it was greased then and thats it  wil be greasing every yr from now on:)
