I own a twin engine Chrysler hull with AQ130C's w/ 270 drives. One of the steering yokes which was purchases with a used outdrive plate. The Yoke looks like it is from a later model year. The boat is a 1973. the opposite steering yoke works fine but looks like it is a smaller diameter head (connects to steering arm inside the boat.

The frozen yoke is about 1.75 diameter head with what looks like a black plastic thick disk surrounding the yoke head. I have removed the bolt from the steering arm and attempted to spread it apart with a big screw driver from the inside. I have removed the grease fitting and have attempted to remove using a wedge (ball joint fork) from the outside. I have also been spraying PB Blaster frequently. Any suggestions?

Re: Volvo 270 Steering yoke removal

The black parts are bushings, one top, one bottom, different sizes. I removed mine with the big screwdriver method, by driving it into the split after removing the thru-bolt.

The ball joint tool from the outside will do more damage than help. The steering arms are tough, I saw no damage to mine after driving the screwdriver/wedge into the split. Mine too are 1973, made when they didn't spare the extra meat in the castings.

I've gone through both drives on my project, learning more here than I thought possible. This forum is a great place to learn. Unlike some forums on other subjects, friendly folks here....
