40 hp 1971 evinrude ski twin carb float adjustment

Runs great.

Was out with friend the other day....he didnt put the gas tank on correctly, unfortunately i didnt check this and pulled the carb off.

I got a carb kit. I bought a manual and sent it to the wrong address. So no i am sitting here with the carbs cleaned and taken apart and I need to know what the spec is for the float adjustment.

Any info on adjusting these correctly would be appreciated.

never mind....the float adjustment came with the carb kit. now i have a sputter/backfire at idle problem

Did you start with the low speed jet out 1 1/2 turns?

I dinked around with it i started at about 1 turn out then 1/4 turns after that. seemed to get better for a time.....but not comfortable success.

The slow idle screw has numbers 1-5 on the knob.

What do you suggest in setting it?

Forget the numbers on the knob, adjust the needle valve to where it idles the best and turn it out another 1/8th turn. Install the knob with #3 at the center of the adjustment.

figured it out! jimminy!

i left a bolt out of the starter mount assembly, it was blowing smoke....also put the re-seated the slow idle needle nice and tight, now it runs in a good low idle...

Good deal!

Oh I backed the adjustment screw out about 1 and 3/4 turns.
