I've got a '63 Big Twin 40 - a 40302-D - and am going to look at a 40352-D tomorrow. (I need parts.)

What's the difference? I assume the "5" digit indicates some specific feature.

Meaning what exactly? My motor has an electric starter, too. Might that have been added?

They typically added the 5 to models with the 5-inch extension for long shaft, 20-inch transom models.

Re: Difference between Evinrude 40302 & 40352?

40302 = Manual Start, short shaft, 40303 = long shaft
40352 = Electric start short shaft, 40353 = long shaft
40362 = Lark Electric shift, short shaft, 40363 = long shaft
40372 = Lark Electric shift, short shaft (color), 40373 = long shaft

If you really do have a 40302, somebody has added electric start. Short/long shaft comversions are easy and commonly done.

I've actually already got the extension kit on my motor. Thanks for the info!
