I decided to start a new thread and will try to summarize all info from the last thread best I can. I have also posted this on another popular marine industry forum trying to find the right source for help.

I installed a Mercmonitor on my 2007 Triton 211-SF powered by a 225 Optimax. This is my second Mercmonitor installation in the last 6 months. The first was a very good friend's 2006 Nitro 288 powered by the same 225 Optimax. A total plug and play installation. Everything worked great. Both boats were totally analog, no prewired smartcraft provisions. All parts for installations were purchased from Don Weed at European Marine. The consultation and customer support from Don is as good as it gets.

Specific to the Triton installation - I am using the blue CAN cable with built in termination resistors on both ends from the motor to a male to male adapter cable to the Mercmonitor cable connected to the Mercmonitor. (Exact same as the installation on the Nitro.)

I continue to get a "Warning No Starboard Engine" message during the first power-up auto detect portion of the power-up sequence. Basically the MercMonitor is not talking to the PCM on the motor. Here are the troubleshooting actions taken to date:

- Had location of motor verified as starboard position by my local Mercury dealer using CDS laptop tool
- Under "System" menu, reset to factory defaults and repowered up multiple times throughout all troubleshooting steps
- Triple checked connections at every connector
- Inspected for pushed or bent pins or any physical damage at each connector
- Successful continuity checks on all pins from motor to Mercmonitor (i.e. end to end cable continuity)
- Reinspected all other connections on cable for proper installation including air temp sensor, NMEA 2000 bus, power/ground, etc.
- Disconnected fuel connector and digital trim sender connector from PCM and retried the power up sequence with only blue CAN cable hooked to PCM

Additional information: my local dealer is a small town Mercury authorized dealer that doesn?t really work on or understand the Smartcraft technology. Very helpful, nice guy and called Mercury trying to get help and was told that I had to use a junction box and the male to male adapter connector between the blue CAN cable and Mercmonitor cable was not going to work. Mercury also referenced service bulletin 05-16 that supposedly explains all this. I haven?t been able to find this bulletin to read yet. But since I have installed this exact configuration successfully before on the exact same year and model of motor, I am respectfully questioning this input.

So I hate to say it, but feeling defeated right now and am completely out of ideals for any additional troubleshooting steps in mind.

Any additional thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Chuck Chidester
