Just bought a 19' 2000 Stingray with 4.3L V6 Mercruiser I/O. What would indicate that the engine was/wasn't properly broken in? I'm not expierencing any problems except my Tach isn't working and I'm not positive I'm reaching WOT until I repair it. It gets right up on plane and will do 50 mph easily. The boat was bought new by a friend of mine who just passed away reciently and I don't think his wife would be able to answer this question. Thanks.

Brian

Re: Engine Break in

50mph is pretty good for a 19' with a 4.3, I don't think you have any problems.

As far as break in, modern engines are pretty hard to mess up. All I can think of is maybe the rings would not 'seal' properly to the cylinder walls so you would see/smell a little oil, and you would need to add some oil between changes, which you should not have to do on a new engine.

Tom

Re: Engine Break in

Thanks Tom, I do periodically see some smoke initally on startup, not just cold but also restarting when the engine is warm. It goes away immediatly. Is this normal? My 3.0 never did this.
