Several years ago, I saw a folding set of aluminum steps attached to the bow of a boat in a slip at Hite Marina at Lake Powell. These would be used for beach access from the bow when the boat is beached. They would be 6'+ long when extended to the ground and were no more than 18" wide. The manufacturer was American Ladder Corp and it was labeled "Stowaway". I did an internet search shortly after seeing them and never found anything. Does anyone know of a similar product out there? My wife would appreciate having one. She's not getting any younger.

Ron

Re: Stowaway Ladder

I know that my boat had an option for a bow stowaway ladder for beach access or water access from the bow. I would think any foldable ladder would mount to the bow and retract up on to the bow like a stern mount model does. Keep searching and good luck.

Just out of curiosity I did a web search to see what you where talking about. They pop up under the name Fulton or Wesbar.

Fulton Performance makes a 7-step bow to beach ladder.
Wesbar makes a 5-step ladder bow to beach.

Ironically, both names are on the same manufacturer’s web pages. Bow to Beach at the bottom of this web page:

http://www.fultonperformance.com/products.php?group=43&subgroup=44

Iboats sells both brand names in their Marine MegaMall.

Re: Stowaway Ladder

For years I tried every kind of ladder made. As you get older you will find that your strength and agility tends to deminish and it gets tougher and tougher to get into the boat.

I was fussing about this with a neighbor a few years back. He was a welder by trade. He offered to give it a shot. He fabricated a three step ladder out of stainless steel tube that bolts to the small platform alongside of my motors. He made the steps out of the same tube by welding three tubes together. It is great. It sticks down in the water low enough so that standing on it is no problem. The steps are wide enough to make it comfortable on your feet. When under way I swing it up to rest on the transom.

Re: Stowaway Ladder

Thanks for the info. The bow to beach was exactly what I was looking for. Our "classic" boat is quite deep, so it's a ways to the water or beach from the bow. We can easily get into the water from the stern by stepping from the motor housing/sun deck to the swim platform to the top of the outdrive to the fins of the outdrive. Kind of a natural ladder that I'm sure wasn't considered in the design. If there's a shallow access to a sand beach, I'll back in and rest the outdrive on the sand, stepping from the swim platform into the shallow water and onto the beach. The water will clean the sand from your feet or water shoes on the way back in and the water is always warm enough to get into when we go. Sand beaches aren't always available on the northern half of Lake Powell or McPhee Reservoir - more likely rock. Anyway, in some situations, the front ladder will be nice. Thanks again for the help.

The snow is piled up around the boat canopy on the north side of the house, providing a cozy home for the boat and neighborhood stray cats. The vehicles sit outside. It's not rated for snow, but as long as I don't let it get too deep, it's ok. Ron
