Re: I NEED PERFORMANCE FOR MY 3.0

dude
there are all kinds of ways to grab a bit more from that engine.matche the intake and head ports. you can port and polish the heads. use higher compression pistons. the motor is a motor. it will respond to all the normal go fast methods.call isks or crane cams for a custom grind. the old 120 OMC manifold with 2 carter 1bbl carbs routed through transom exhaust was a decent flowing mainfold.
now I will advise you.
SPEED COSTS MONEY, how fast ya wanna go?
I built engine/drivetrain components for NHRA and IHRA events for years. motors is motors, they suck squeeze bang and blow. when your all done hopping up your 4 banger then ya gotta start regearing the drive. that 4 banger wont hold up to much more than about 4800 RPM's for any length of time. my 455 olds will shift 1-2 2-3 3-4 at 7200 RPM I just would not care to cruise at that speed.
good luck but buy a V8

What rodbolt said times two or you could put the 4 banger in a smaller boat, power to weight is the name of the game.
Either way - $$$$$$$$$$$.

Aldo

Re: I NEED PERFORMANCE FOR MY 3.0

NO way the scarab is a great boat honest like alot of other 3.0 owners i really just want to do exhausts. I was thinking custom mine like the 70's 80's ski boats of corse they where 8's but basicalt the same thing 4 into 1 out of the engine cover area that should make it sound like its got balls at least and i could while custom making the exhaust make the manifold ports a little larger (just tell me what you guys think) i know you supercharger v8 anti teen people are going to say it sounds lame but out of water running the engine with the sliencing power of water it sounds pretty cool. LOL im just playing with you V8 guys but seriously thank you for everyones imput on this post i really appricate it god bless.

Hey viperry,

The 3.0L sounds like $h!t with an open exhaust. It sounds good at idle up to about 1500, then really starts to sound like a 4 cylinder after that. You won't gain any HP from a thru-hull exhaust, especially on the 3.0.

A turbo would be tough. Even aside from the $$, it's the heat. You would have to separate the water from the exhaust which will make it hotter, then you have the turbo which can get red hot especially since you'll be WFO all the time, your bilge compartment ambient temp could easily go over 300-400 degrees and then you blow up and die.

If you have the $$ for a turbo, just honestly do what these guys say and either put a 5.7 in the boat or start looking for another boat. Will cost you less and be much less of a hassle in the long run.

You obviously have the HP bug which isn't a bad thing. Unfortunately the 3.0 was designed for people without this affliction. :D An MPI 4.3V6 will put you at 220HP, still provide good MPG, and save you a few bucks over a V8. With any engine swap you'll have to change the upper gear ratio in the drive.

Good Luck!!!!

Re: I NEED PERFORMANCE FOR MY 3.0

Like everyone said - the 3.0 is not a performance motor. To get any significant power increase that you could notice you would need to put a lot of money into the engine. Your not going to cause anyone with a V8 any problems. Your already getting 50 mph out of her, this is good. My 350 stingray only gets 54 topped out with the 5 blade prop but it gets there pretty fast. There is no substitute for cubic inches and torque.

Did anyone bother to figure out what Vipery's set up would be at 50 mph? His speedo is obviously wrong and he is obviously full of it.

and with a tail wind on glass flat water. It's certainly possible, but I really doubt he's getting 50.

Dude you can't get anymore power out of a 3.0 than that
that motor is already overstressed as it is go with a 5.7
