Was out on the lake for the first time this season. Left the dock and was taking off slow. Was running about 19mph when I gave it full throttle and the rpm's went thru the roof but no more speed. I stopped the boat to see if something was stuck on the prop. but was clean. Put it in gear and started slow and all was fine. Tried to give it more throttle and it did the same. RPM's went up but the boat did not speed up. I limped the boat back to the launch and pulled it out of the water. Pulled the prop and the spline looks good. What could it be? Is there a bearing in the prop that could be bad causing it to slip under greater pressure. Please help.

may be the engine coupler, rubber hub in the prop, no oil in the drive and melted the gears.

Re: Mercruiser 140

Well I have oil in the outdrive so it isn't that. I took the prop off but I don't know any way of checking to see if the hub in the prop is bad. I have a couple other props I could try. I need to replace a torn boot on the outdrive before I put it back into the water to check and see if that is the issue. Not to sure how hard it is going to be to change the boot. Might as well change them all when I go to change the one.
