hello good people of this forum,

what could cause a great running engine to hard start after a one to two miles running, stop cut of the engine and fish for about one hour ,crank cranking before is start. also every time i start it i smell gas only when just start.

last if i just stop cut of the engine take of the flame aresstor i saw like smoke in the throat of the carb kinda like steam fogy, the two tune up screws if i screw them all the way in they dont do much for the engine

other wise it runs good, just change spark plugs hope for some info on this carb was recently rebuild

that means your carb is flooded maybe you didnt adjust your float correctly. Your carb may have a case of the drips... maybe some penicillin.

I’m no carb expert but, sounds to me like it's flooding after you shut it off. Did you notice gas dripping into the throttle bores when you removed the spark arrestor?

First thing I would check is the float level.

How does the engine idle, the fact the idle mixture screws have little effect is also an indication of problems. Hang tight a good carb guy will chime in soon. Good luck

Any auto parts store should carry the rebuild kit. BTW you cannot correctly rebuild a carb with out a rebuild kit. Disassembling the carb generally destroys the gaskets and seals. Also those drips are a problem, the smoke is likely the raw fuel vaporizing when it contacts the hot intake manifold.

if the needle valve under the float is leaking by,then it will bleed off all the fuel pump pressure-pushing gas thru the carb and flooding the motor causing hard starting.

If the float is correct the next thing to check are the primary jets. make sure that they are fully seated in idle.

you did not say weather you checked the choke? also the dashpot.

Since we know the carburator was just rebuilt, we know who has to do the job, again. Get it right this time.
