Gday all,

Running a 302W into a volvo penta 280 leg. Looking for options on what to use to replace the exhaust between the exhaust manifold and inlet flange to the drive. It is not a direct line to the inlet and therefore I am looking for a flexible option that will withstand both heat and the raw water outflow.

I have had silicon Hose suggested which is basically turbo hose..

What do youthink?

Regards

Sean

The way the engine is set up is not in the OEM design. Therefore the OEM parts will not solve the problem entirely. Very tight spot with lots of curvy bits needed.

something else I just had a thought about requires me to move the raw water outlet to the exhaust rather than have it pumping through the manifold. Would this be a problem as far as heat goes? Do the manifolds need to be cooled or can I dump the raw water into the exhaust at any point? In a normal riser setup the water is obviously dumped into the exhaust after the riser. Is that correct?

Regards

Sean

P.S. Im new to I/O boating. Always had inboard ski boats or outboard fishin boats.

Don't run dry exhaust - the exhaust manifolds and risers are cooled so that you don't blow up. Not blowing up is a good start to any boater's afternoon.

Most do-it-yourselfers will use cast or glass elbows along with shorter bits of exhaust hose in order to match the old exhaust. It tends to be neater, cleaner, and stronger than forced exhaust hose.

At that point you can use any current pieces of wet-exhaust hose on the market for the short and straight bits (I think "SAE J2006" is the latest standard to watch for).

Your spot on with the standard Yoced. i have been searching more tonight and have found the appropriate hose on the net. I found a local guy this afternoon in my travels that also has a flexible corrigated hose for marine use. i will check with him on that standard. learning more as I go I have learnt that yes the wter simply follows a water jacket until out of the manifold and then gets dumped into the exhaust. My biggest problem with using cast bends etc is that I have no room for them. they are all too big. Even if this hose does the job I'm still faced with another drama. The top fitting measures 63mm and the bottom measures 59mm. Can I use a short piece of hose with a 59mm inside dia. and a 63mm outside diamter to slip inside the main flexible hose in order to take up the excess on the bottom fitting? Double hosing I gues you may call it.

Regards

Sean

Yep, that's how you do it. This is going to sound weird to our fellow iboaters - the purple pig should carry that hose.

I feel kind of wierd replying on this topic.

Aldo

lol.. as you would find it wierd. At least you can visualise it.. (its aldo's old boat for anyone confused)

I found out that the existing hose "is" actually turbo hose after closer inspection Aldo. Went down to the guy I found the hose with yesterday and he sold the lot today. Purple pig dont sell this hose apparently after having spoken to 3 different guys there. A place in Dandenong has it called total rubber. i will be calling them. Meanwhile I think I may have found a way to do it in stainless without restricting flow too much.

Appreciate the comments fellas.
