Hi everyone. I have a question about fuel vapor venting. If this topic was covered previously, forgive me, I didn't find it when I did a search. Anyway...I was concerned about venting fuel vapors from my boat. All the talk about venting fuel vapors appears to be centered around I/O's, which makes sense since the engine is enclosed. I have a 19' Arrowglass Bow Rider with a 115HP O/B Johnson. Under the aft left seat I store my two 6 gallon metal gas cans. As we all know, fuel vapor is heavier than air. Next to my fuel tanks is my bilge. Obviously the fuel vapors will make their way into the bilge. Bilge pump turns "on". Boom. OK, so it hasn't happened. I'm curious to know about venting. What's the difference between my situation and an I/O? Thanks for any suggestions/input!

Bilge pumps are made to not go boom.In an i/o the starter is low in the bilge and that kind of spark can blow the lid off of her.It is a lot less likely for a portable tank to leak vapor from under your seat and for it to go down into your bilge. If you are concerned you can vent the seat somehow.Charlie
