Does anyone know of a website that gives the precise defintions of boat hull configurations? Or, does anyone know this offhand?

The defintion of a v-hull is pretty self explanatory, but a thorough internet search could not come up with a definition of a semi-v hull.

13 degrees or less is considered "shallow" or "semi-V".

14 to 17 degrees is "modified V"

18 and up is "deep V".

Or so I've been told... :)

The above measurements, are at the stern of the boat.

The shape of the front of the hull doesn't matter.

Dr Ken,

According to Chapman Piloting, 61st edition, "Hulls with deadrise angles (measured a the stern) of 16 to 19 degrees . . . are considered to be modified-V types, while steeper angles as high as 23 degrees are deep-V types."

tcube

Thanks guys. Groups like this can be a goldmine of information. I spent about an hour on various internet search engines and never got this information.

I needed to know this because I was filling out a Capacity Plate application form that asked for hull conformation.

Thanks again, Ken
