Just bought a 1993 sea ray with mercruiser 3.0 liter. No trim cylinder anodes and the rear anode seems to melded with the stern drive.

Any suggestions for removal?

How often do you replace your anodes?

Thanks.

Re: Anodes melded

The Trim Cylinder Anodes are an Aftermarket thing,.......
Not standard equipment.......

The 1 over the Prop is attached with a Thru-bolt,...... From Above it.......
How often do you replace your anodes?
Whenever they Need it................
Which Could be Never,..... If it's a Trailer Boat...........

Re: Anodes melded

Sorry Bondo, the trim cylinder anodes are NOT and aftermarket setup on the Alpha I Gen II drives. They are bolted right to the cylinder itself, not the rod.

SW, Not sure what you mean when you say it's 'melded'? Do you mean stuck, or melting????
There are 2 bolts that mount that anode to the cavitation plate. Look for 2 bolt heads under the cavitation plate.

Re: Anodes melded

Thanks guys, I took of the anodes on my 5.7 liter 1997 merc, they came right off with the bolts.

On my 3.0 liter ...I took off the bolt and the anode is like 'glued on' and incredibly corroded.

They stick sometimes, if you have the bolts out, just tap it lightly and it will pop loose.

Came right off. thanks. two bolts underneath on the 3.0....but what was the bolt on the top, of the anode directly in the center?

It's not normal, I can tell you that. You might want to contact the previous owner and find out what he had rigged up.
You would be surprised at some of the things I see people do to their drives and engine in the name of corrosion control.
