Edit...1959, not '66

http://usersweb.primary.net/~ndemge/boat/

Above link to pictures I took. (high res pics, takes a while to load)

It's a 16' Alum boat. No Dents, looks like a good power washing, paint, and build some good seats and a bottom deck, would be a good river boat.

The guy wasn't able to start the motor, no battery, fuel etc... Said he had it out last year, it ran like crud, but it ran.

Is this a collectors item by any shot?

Asking price is $750, thought of offfering a few hundred and fix it up to re-sell. Is it worth it?

The trailer it sits on isn't really worth anything, needs to be sanded down, painted etc, but that doesn't cost much more than time.

It's sitting in the back of a dog crap infested yard in St. Louis, What you see is what you get.

What ya think?

I had a similar late sixties Starcraft for many years. It handled the rough water better then some bigger boats that I have been in. The boat is worth something especially if you want to spend some time cleaning it up. I painted, redecked it and bought new seats for mine. Came out real nice.

The trailer maybe.

To me the motor is not worth the hassle. I would put something newer on it.

If you can get the boat for a couple hundred and know you will have to put a newer motor on it.

Could be worth it.

Aluminum boats tend to command more value than a 'glass boat of similar age/condition. If the motor ran, I would say yes, but I wouldn't count the motor out. The uninformed tend to dismiss the old motors, and nine times out of ten a tune up and cleaning the carbs gets it running like a top. I bought a 63 Merc 850 85 horse off a guy who bought an old classic Thompson wood boat with it hanging off the back. He put a new Honda on, assuming because the motor was a 63 there was no way it ran. He never tried it. I gave him $200 for it because I just knew it would run, and sure as shyte, I put it on my old boat, hooked it up, and ran it for the next couple years until I sold the boat. I never had to do anything but add gas & oil. I see that little boat out on my lake all the time. They put a wakeboard tower on it and thrash the snot out of it and that little boat is still screaming. I would say if you could get it for 3-500 bones it would be alright. I bet with minor work the motor runs, it probably had just sat too long. Clean it up, personalize it, and it would be cool. If you are thinking of buying it cheap to resell and turn a buck, boats are not the thing to do that with. Houses maybe, but not boats.

Hi ndemge
Well ...it's got a new windshield! That ought to be worth something! Any trailer with good numbers on the paperwork is worth $50.00 around here.

JasonJ: You must have been posting at the same time because when I first read it yours wasnt there yet... But I was thinking that only JasonJ would think that the motor was worth anything and there you are
I wouldn't count the motor out.
LOL with ya, as I think you have Great positive out look when it comes to all this. :)

The Hull, if you do get it I'd take the winshield off and save it. The boat anchore on the back off also and well... I'd look for a little newer one.
With the windshied and motor off you could flip it over and sand blast it, then paint. Flip back over and do the same with the inside. Use lots of foam and rig the way you want.
Price.. remember I'm looking at with no motor or trailer.. 300 or a little more if I really liked the boat. Aluminum boat with good paint jobs sell real easy around here. And the boat has nice lines.

Link, I am a sucker for old Mercs. I may have more faith in the product than I should, but I can't help it. Its a condition. As it turns out, I have been given, you guessed it, an ancient 16 foot aluminum boat hull. Its an old Larson, have no idea what year it is, and it is horrible shape. It used to have wood splashrails and gunnels. The wood is gone, so all that needs to be replaced. I have not picked it up yet, I'll probably fix it up and sell it. It is free, so I can't lose. I have no need for it, but free stuff appeals to me....

The boat is serviceable. It could be made into something decent.

I wouldn't waste my time with the engine.

You may get someting for the engine, on e-bay, to a collector looking for a parts engine.
