exhaust leak on 400 stringer

Okay I hear an exhaust leak only while idling and it seem to come from the rear (almost where it exits the engine compartment) going into the sterndrive. Any ideas?<br /> It is '80 seaswirl with a 140 omc

Is there a exhaust elbow off the exhaust manifold?<br />On my 200 there is a rubber boot going to the intermediate housing. You can check for a tear there also check elbow gaskets and look for water leaks in that area.<br />Good luck<br />Beef

Check the clamps on the rubber exhaust bellows. One is loose or you have a crack in the bellows.
