Gimble Bearing

88' Barron 130 hp 3.0 4cyl. can someone please tell me how to remove the gimble bearing alpha outdrive already out can't seem to get the bearing out. Do you need a special tool can you possibly do it with a slide hammer if so how? Any suggestions? :confused:

I had the kind that swiveled out (wasted my time with the slide hammer). You are changing your impellar and bellows while you have it all apart right? Also your shift cable may need replaced.

Check out Mercstuff.com. They have a section on "How to". I followed their procedure and it worked great. Check out the tool section also, they have a special puller. I ended up making my own by using the jaw assembly from the slide hammer, three foot threaded rod, few washers and nuts. Use the flat steel bar, with a hole in the center, to go across the bell housing (special tool, also used to install the bearing). The threaded rod goes thru the hole in the steel plate, place two washers on rod butt up against the steel plate and place a nut on rod against the washers. Turn nut clockwise until bearing is pressed out.
