1974 IMP Ford V8 188hp,Pre-Alpha out drive: I had the new lower shift cable perfectly adjusted when running on the muffs without the prop (easy, smooth shift, quiet with just a little chirp) Tonight, when I installed the stainless steel prop that came with the boat(for the first time) the shifting was a lot louder into forward, and would barely get/stay in reverse. Does the extra weight of the prop affect it that much? Would an aluminum prop be better for this drive? Or,is this not unusual and I should adjust it again with the load? Will it change again on the lake?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a little confused about this.

Re: 225S shift adjustment question

Yes, it needs readjustment....
It is more the load than the prop....
A couple turns of the "Barrel Nut" one way or the other will do it...
It really is a touchy adjustment, get it close on the muffs & fine tune it under load....
lilman is right, always bring some tools, the little extra weight may save you a tow ;) .....JK
EDIT:
The stainless prop will be fine, even more efficient actually, provided that it is the correct diameter & pitch.....
Whether it is stainless or aluminum should not figure into the equation with regard to the adjustment.... :)

Should I adjust the remote control cable, or the outdrive cable?

You were right! I did a little re-adjusting and it works fine now (on muffs). Next test... the lake! I'll bring my tools.
