Was wondering if Volvo made an automatic shutoff for overheating in their AQ240A/280 Models. When mine overheated due to a clogged water intake (I believe) the engine made a few popping sounds a shut down, it later restarted after cooling down.

There are temp and oil pressure switchs that can be installed to sound a buzzer or turn on a light

BUT there are to many times when stoping the motor would put your life in danger to have it happen automatic :)

tommays

Re: Automatic Engine Shutoff

I was thinking more along the lines of the engine shutting down before major damage would be done. Not so much evertime it may reach a little hot. I would like to install a sounding alarm at least to warn me of an increase in temp. Do you know how I would go about doing this.

the auto shutdown is due to the pistons sticking to the cyl walls. there is no auto shutdown,
like Tommays said, you can buy a kit to install audible overheat and low oil pressure alarms.
