my starter motor on my 3.0ltr 91 inboard is getting lazy at turning over and am wondering is there any other starter motors that will fit and is this a common problem?

i would be sure your battery and cables are up to snuff first

A battery will hold a charge just fine and still not pass enough current to turn the motor over fast as it gets old

tommays

Have you checked your electrical connections & wires? I would do that before getting a new starter....JK

you can get your starter reconditioned but make sure that who ever does it for you seals up all the joints to make them air tight otherwise the moisture will get in and youre back to square one...sierra do a remanufactured starter for mercruiser and priced keenly too...

An auto parts house can bench
your starter.
it will tell you how many amps it draws.

That's not necessarlily what Tom,+ JK are talking about,..........

Before you go,+ lay out $150.00/$250.00 for a new Starter,.......

You Should go out ,+ Remove & Clean All the Battery/ Starter connections,,..... Shiney Clean with sandpaper,.....
Then Reinstall everything,.... Be Sure to slather abit of Grease over them after they've been Tightened........
And,....
Don't forget the Grounds,..... All of them,..... ;)

You'll probably get another year or 2 out of your Starter,........If you feed it enough Amps,+ Volts........Clean Power...... :D
