Manafold on OMC 120

I am looking at buying an 1980 17.5' Vangaurd OMC 120. It starts great and runs great, floor in one corner seems a little soft but otherwise in good condition. The only thing I am worried about is on the front of the manifold it looks like it got so hot that it burnt the paint away and what is left is the rust color, the rest of the manifold is still in good condition. I am taking it on the lke this weekend to test it out, ANY suggestions would be helpful as to what to look for or why it would have gotten so hot.<br /><br />Thanks.

Don't Buy It,..........<br />Actually,........ RUN Away from It.........<br /><br />OMC has been Out of Business for Many Years,..........<br />No Dealers,....... No Support.........<br />Just a miniscule amount of Aftermarket Parts,..........<br /><br />Run as Fast as You Can............................................. <br /><br />Even if this was a Free Deal,.........Don't Take It..........<br />The Only Thing Worse to buy,....... Would be a Bilgeliner, with a Yamaha I/O in it.................................

1980 was a bad year for OMC... check if it has been updated to a "full mechanical" shifting lower unit from the original 1980 hydromechanical lower unit. If not, run faster than even Bondo is suggesting...<br />(and I like OMC stringers!).<br />If it's on a very good trailer, the boat's worth $1200Cdn in Ontario, not sure about there.

Thanks for the quick reply. He wanted $5000.00 for it and it sits on a nice dual axle trailer that is alittle big for the boat.

would not matter if it was 5 dollars, unless you just need a trailer.<br /> for 5000 can set ya up with a nice package, for 2500 I got a real nice 66 16 ft glasspar with a 115 yamaha

I'd take a full mech 800 over a Cobra any day.<br /><br />But, unless you like wrenching and searching for parts deals and keeping spare everything....<br />VP (pre or post Cobra) or Merc the way to go.<br /><br />Complete OMC 400 and 800 drives are being repopped, but they cost 3X what the repop Merc alpha costs...
