We bought a boat that we thought we'd be able to register as a salvage, because it sat on the seller's lawn for 12 yrs. The seller is very sick and never registered the boat himself. He can't remember the man who sold it to him and according to Wildlife and Fisheries, we need to know the name of the man who sold it to the man we bought it from -- or else we can't register the boat. Now we have a boat that we can't register and the shrimping season is passing us by. Any helpful suggestions out there?

sounds like you don't have a title for the boat?<br />you can try registering it as a "HOMEMADE" boat.<br />it's worth a try..... in New York you can do a title <br />search and try contacting the person who<br />last held the title too.<br />good luck and send me some shrimp if it works

Just write the numbers down off of the side of the boat and take them to the court house and they should be able to tell you who was the last registered owner and go from there.

if there is no "bill of sale" from origional owner, I would definately put some sort of storage lein on the boat just so the registered owner can't come and take it back. <br />I would speak with local law enforcement and they should be able to tell you how to cover your behind and what your rights are.<br />(just an afterthought)<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Not sure if this is still an issue but As I stated in another post, check out ITS Titles175.00 and a bill of sale should get you a title. Same warning though, I have only talked to them on the phone and haven't tried yet... Soon though.<br />JF

Man, im going through the same problem, Guy sold me a boat wrote a receipt, said when ole lady got home she knew where the title was.. turns out he said could not find it.. but when he bought it never registered it.. I have talked to the place you posted.. Thanks for posting that. thx to you maybe i still have hope..
