What is the best way to strip off the antifoul paint from my boat?? I have just finished my conversion from I/O to out board and I like it! Thanks to those who answered questions for me when i was doing this project.
I want to get rid of this ugly paint that has been comming off slowly for years. I do not leave my boat inthe water at all so it is not needed. I would like to strip it off claen it up and apply some paint to the hull. So ?? is how to get it off and what kind of paint is the best to use on the hull when I am ready?
Thanks alot.
You can ck out the boat at
http://members.fishingworks.com/macojoe/
Let me no what you think

Re: anti foul paint

maco,

You're going to have to sand it off. Be careful to use respirators and so forth. Some anti-foul paint is pretty nasty stuff. Since you do not know what's on there, better to err on the caution side.

You can paint with just about any good quality marine paint. I like the one part epoxies.

Check out this website, it is a wealth of information on paint.

www.westmarine.com

Thanks Djohns I thought that was the way I was going to go. But I guess there wasa easy way. I have found some stuff you can paint on cover and let sit then peel the stuff off. But some one told me that it is big $$$$.
again Thanks and great Job on your tin boat!!

Re: anti foul paint

i did my trophy last summer. the west marine stripper worked great combined with a pressure washer. then sanding.
its not an easy job and has to be done according to directions or you have to resand to start process again.
!!!! the whole process can be very toxic to you and everything around you. great care should be taken.!!!!!
i read up on it for 2 mons before i did it.
i used the interlux 2000e and west marine (interlux) CCP<cpp> black. multi season trailerable. looks great. have fun
