Re: Finished latest work on the Beast

Believe me, I want to be burnin' some petrol, but the ramps are useless due to water being too low. Spring melt brings the water back up, and so far it has only come up a few inches, has about ten more feet to go. There is a ramp on the other side of the lake that I could use, but its thirty minutes away. Still, I may end up having to do it just to satiate my urges......

Boat looks great, but after all the attention to detail that you've put into the project, do my eyes deceive me or is there a white wall on one side and a blackwall on the other???

Re: Finished latest work on the Beast

The tires are on their last leg, and are on my short list for replacement. I never even noticed the whitewall/non whitewall differential. They are ghetto tires, and the rims are skeevy as heck, but I'll replace the tires and paint the rims. One day....

Dj, the only reason I didn't take more pics of the inside besides laziness is because other than color change, it looks the same as it does in the casting deck pics on the site. I'll take more pics the next time I have it out of the garage. I have to take the grabrail off to get it in and out, and don't have the heart to just leave the grabrail off. I like it mounted, makes it feel complete.

Jason, just joshin about the tires!! Any chance you could make a quick release for the center of the grabrail and mount the sides with a stainless ball/socket like you can get for bimini tops? That way you could just flip it back to put it in your garage. Might not be as solid though. Just a thought. Nice rig.

Re: Finished latest work on the Beast

Interesting idea Quantum. I figure once the water is up, I can just put it in the water and leave it until October, so I won't be having to put it in and out of the garage all the time. I still have a few nit-noid things to do, then I'll probably pull it out and park it next to the garage with the cover on it. I just like it in the garage right now because I can work on it. I was actually going to get it ready and take it out on the water this upcoming weekend, but I have been asked to work Saturday, so I won't do it. Sunday is the only day my better half and I have together the whole day, so I reserve that day for quality time and leave the projects alone.

Jason when you mixed the foam, how much did you pour in at a time? I don't want to blow the floor out. the guy at the f/g place said my boat should be a 2 gal. job with 2lb. foam, this seem close to you? My boat isn't as big as yours only 5' beam.

Re: Finished latest work on the Beast

I mixed it a cup of each part at a time, pouring through holes that I had drilled ever two feet. I had the bow up as high as I could get it, and started at the back. I poured, and when the foam expanded to the hole, I placed the plug in and a weight on top. I went to the next hole and poured through it, again when the foam got to the hole I placed the plug in with weight on top. This causes the foam to fill properly yet have room to expand its way forward. If you pour with the boat level, you'll get big globs and voids, not what you want, especially if the foam is to provide partial structure to the floor. I did this with all my stringer voids except center void. The upward tilt with working your way from the back (lowest point) to the front (highest point) ensures the void is filled with no voids and it is providing a bit of structure.

Re: Finished latest work on the Beast

Do you think 2 gal will be close to enough for my boat, my stringers are only 6" and just a foot and a half to the side of the boat with the hull rising to 1 1/2" at the side the lenth is 13' from the transom to the front of the floor with the front of the hull rising up to flush with the floor. The 2 gal estiment was from the guy at the glass shop, i don't know how to figure it, or would it hurt anything to get the 2 gal. and then if i run out go get more or do you have to do this all at one time? I have to drive about 25 miles to get the foam and glass products.
