I have an old 13 Whaler that needs the deck and the inside refinished the glass has been painted before (poorly) and I need to do something with it. Can anyone tell me a good finish I was thinking of what you would find in a entry level Carolina Skiff. It is like a pebble or spotted look not a smoth gel coat finish. Is this somthing I can buy and put on myself? I can not find a name for thjis type of finish. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Bill

Biinicole,

take a look at my 40 year old 13' whaler...I was in the same shape....I sprayed a rubberized coating called Ultra Tuff....

this is a great product, easy to apply, durable and cushion on the feet.

http://www.keltonkrew.com/whaler-restore.htm

Good Luck

I admired you boat and your work but never looked close to see what you used. My question is are you happy with it? would you use it again? and was it had to put on?

Re: Interior finish

I'm extremely happy with it.

As a matter of fact, the first time I took it out for a weekend of running jugs for catfish. It was a nasty weekend so there was a ton of mud and fish slime in the boat. At the end of the weekend, we pulled the boat out of the water and it looked like crap....Got ready to clean it and a major thunderstorm blew in....I couldn't clean the boat due to numerous lightening strikes. Hauled the boat to storage, put the cover on it and left it nasty.

went back 2 weeks later, used the boat again and it was muddy, etc.....This time I was able to clean it afterwards....with a scrub brush (like you'd clean the bumper of a truck) and some boat soap, it looked just like I sprayed it so for gunk to dry on it for 2 weeks and then clean up to look like new, I'd have to say it is a good product. Plus, it doesn't scratch and feels good on the feet with some cushion.

Would I use it again....You betcha...as a matter of fact a friend is getting ready to put it on his boat. I would not recommend this to a friend if I didn't believe in it...that's an easy way to screw up a friendship is to tell them to use a product that will mess up their boat.

application...super easy.....sand the entire area down with 60 grit (I did it with a DA sander), use their primer and wait.

stir the stuff up really good and pout 1/2 gallon at a time into a drywall texture gun hopper and start spraying....Only caution is don't put it on too heavy...more light to medium coats is better.

Hope this helps
