I have a few too many bolt holes and would like to fill them and repair the gelcoat over them. What is the best way to go about this?
Thanks!

Re: Excess bolt holes

Most are above the water line from fish finders, homemade windows, cup holders, ect, there are a few from rivets that held the boat emblem on. I also have a small gouge below waterline I would like to repair, the right way. Thank you for your help!

Re: Excess bolt holes

Baically you clean the hole up first. Usually you make it bigger by dishing it out a bit. If the hole was 1/4" you wqill want the bottom to be 3/8" and the top about 3/4" The you will want a good fiberglass epoxy mix. use cabosil and some glass fibers about 1/8". Mix this up about 4 oz of epoxy 4 oz of cabosil and as much fiber about 4 oz to make a real stiff mix. You want the stick to stand in it and not run off. Put this in the hole and level it off. then you will want to put your gelcoat on after a day or so as long as the epoxy is hard. If you have a gash I suggest if you can get to the backside you layer some glass over the hole the in the hole on the outside to give extra support.
There are other methods too!

Ok, can I use polyester resin? I have some already. The gouge on the hull is not a hole! it is through the gelcoat and slight damage too glass. Can I just fill it the same way as the bolt holes and repair the gel coat? Thanks for your help!
