my TR21 is powered by a 225 merc efi. driving a trophy plus 25 pitch 4 blade. the problem is that at 3/4 to wot the dang boat wants to walk all over when trimmed up. ive tried adjusting the hyd. jack plate while running. the hyd.seastar steering is all ok. if it is trimmed down it smooths out, but then theres too much boat in the water and my top speed suffers. i like the hole shot and top end this prop delivers, but i need to feel solid in the water also. wassup anyone

Re: chine walking

Yes, the Tabs are great, I have them on my Bass Boat, but I think we need to figure why this is happening. Chinewalking is almost allways due to your engine being too low in the water causing your boat to rock side to side when trimmed up at WOT. I find it hard to believe that you cannot raise your engine enough with the jack plate while at power to stop the chinewalking. I think maybe you are just not raising it enough. If it is still doing it when the jack plate is all the way up, then you are going to have to raise the engine on the plate. There is always the chance that it was mounted wrong in the first place. When you get the chinewalking issue figured out, you might try a set of Smart Tabs. They can stop chinewalk, but usually it is another issue.
------------------------
Re: chine walking

When your up on the pad there is not enough boat hull in the water to control the chine walking. As you said dropping the motor allows for more boat in the water and the problem goes away. I suggest that you try running without the Hydrofoil. Then for more stability and Hole shot call me. 800-233-0194

Re: chine walking

Im assuming that this is a new boat to you. Learning the properties of a new boat takes time. Hydralic jack plates are used like your trim and tilt, but not as much. It takes a certain amount of time to learn how your boat reacts to different trim angles, let alone adding another equation into the mix of a hydralic jack plate. You need to find a place for the Jack plate that allows you to have a decent hole shot, and leave it at that setting as far as how low you go, then when you are trimming out, and you notice the boat starting to chinewalk, you need to raise the engine untill it stops, then trim some more, then if the chinewalking starts again, raise it some more untill it gos away. When you go into a turn or decide to slow down or stop, you will have to lower the jack plate and trim down also. Its going to take awhile to get used to. This is not your grandfauthers fishing boat.
-------------------------
Re: chine walking

lubedude, ive had my triton 2 years now and havent had this problem with any of my other boats although none of the others have had a jack plate.there are 5 mounting holes on the motor and right now it is bolted third from the top. 2 holes on the plate and it is bolted at the top of it. im going to go up to the forth on the motor and see if this works.thanx again. p.s what do you think about amsoil, my mechanic seems to think there is something in it that deteriated my injector lines.its only 4 years old.i then switched to mercury premium plus.

This leads me to believe you have either an electric, or a hydralic jack plate, I cant believe that you cannot adjust it without moving it with the holes enough to solve the problem. If this is the case, The person that installed the jack plate was inept.
------------------------
Strgazer
Make sure you do not have your batteries or equipment on one side which can make the boat off balance at high speed. Also a quick non agreesive bump of the wheel can help you drive out of this condition.

Stgazer;

What is you top speed now? We hake MoBster Tabs for bass boats - specifically for this type of problem. ( high speed stability).

nautijohn,
top end on gps is 78 mph. but she starts walking about 68-71. boat is being repaired now. we were rear ended on the way to the lake, been gone for 3 weeks and wont be back for another 2. gonna try to raise the motor one more mounting hole and see if that fixes the problem.

With a low water pickup (like Bob's Machine sells) you can run the motor with only 1/2 of the gearcase in the water. Too high is only when the water pressure drops. Get the hammer out...that prop will need more pitch to run this way or you will be tickling the rev limiter.
