How do I get this steering wheel off?!

I own a 1990 Baja Islander 190, and want to replace the steering wheel. I've removed the dustcap in the center of the wheel, and then removed the bolt that I thought held the wheel on, but to no success. The bolt is off but the wheel won't budge. Is there something that I'm missing here? Thanks!

Welcome to iBOATS!

Your missing that its a 3/4" tapered keyway.
The easy way is to replace the nut on the threads till its even with the ends but is not holding wheel. Brace yourself holding the top and bottom of wheel and pull out. You will need one hand and a knee/thigh to do this. Then lighly tap nut with hammer. You put the nut on so you don't mess up threads. Wheel will magically pop off shaft to nut. Remove nut and wheel is off.

You mean "nut", right? If you meant "nut", then Realgun has the answer. If not then you wheel is attached differently than most and you will have to fiddle around some more until you find the key.

When I removed a wheel off of a boat for a friend, we had to rubber mallet it off as it was 'stuck' into position from years of sitting on there. (IF THE ABOVE DOESNT WORK)
Just a suggestion...but I know it took two people to do it..

S
