This weekend my daughter was helping me with the top project. She is 5 1/2 yrs old and can be a big help with holding and being a gofer. But yesterday she stood on the ski rack on the port side of the boat and the aluminum side broke free from the plywood bottom. Yep, the very edge of the plywood where the screws were had become "compromised" after 40 years and her weight was just the trigger to make it fail. Oh well. I didn't even get mad, just told her not to stand on there because it's not strong enough. Just have to remove the seats, side consols and probably the lower rub rail strip on the side of the hull (I thinkthe screws go through the rub rail and hull, into the ski rack. Screws are hidden by the vinyl insert.

Maybe she can help me. :)

Always something. Sounds like just another opportunity to spend more quality time with your daughter. Mine were never much interested in helping me with my projects sad to say. Probably my fault though.

Look at this as an opportunity to make it better :) Great that you are getting your daughter involved.

You were looking for something to do to the boat anyway. Have fun!

Of course she can help.

And the more involed, and dirtier she gets, the more 'cool' it will it will be for both of ya.

My kids are grown and gone, but before they became teenagers--- helping Dad, and getting really filthy in the process was a highpoint in their lives.

Yep, I am a man of leisure. Lots of time on my hands! LOL!

I figure that seeing as both the upper and lower surfaces of the rack bottom are exposed to the air, making them from pressure treated ply will be more than sufficient to prevent any rot. Maybe a few coats of thinned polyester resin on top side giving a gloss surface making them easier to wash down.

Hey Mark,

Were you out on the Peconic on Sunday?
I heard it was beautiful out there.
Water temp is something like 80 degrees now.

Wave,

No, not this past weekend. Won't get out there again until August. Water has been warmer both on the bay and the ocean than I remember from past years. Kids love it. I especially like playing in the breakers on the ocean side with the kids.

Hellow everyone
my is tav man from the great state of WI. This is my first boat that I'v everworked on, and hope it's not my last.
Let me give everyone a little history of my boat.
I fould it in a wooded area at my friends farm.
I fell in love with the lines of the boat, and the bow light. it is red/blue, can anyone tell me what that all about. my friend said i could have it for free well i took it.
As far as i know it is a 1961 Larson All American 165. I will try to get pictrue of it on line
My second question (my first was the bow light)
is this. When i cut out the floor to check the foam out. Can I use luan and coat it with epoxes rasin, then use the can insalation for window&door to fill the void between the floor & hull

Welcome to iBoats TAV MAN. Sounds like a nice project you have there. It would be best if you were to start a new post (click "start a new topic") and introduce yourself and your project there. That way you will get a thread going about your project rather than having it buried in some other topic. You have come to the right place to talk about and get help on your project!

Good luck!

Mark
