Re: How do I recolor scratches?
I'm in the same position as you - wanting to fix imperfections before I add Poliglow.

I assume the white underneath must be the fiberglass beneath the gelcoat. The best fix is to get some gelcoat and color match it to your hull. I understand that is a process of trial and error, in which it is a good thing to approximate the color. Don Casey has an excellent book (Sailboat Hull and Deck Repair) in which he details the procedure.

As an alternative, I suppose the scratch could be filled with epoxy or even Bondo to just beneath the surface, then add several layers of paint that you've matched to a polished section of the hull, and buff it it all together.

From what I gather, matching gelcoat is somewhat of an art form.

Yet another alternative, of course, is to prep and paint the hull any doggone color you want (remembering that scratches in the paint will show the gelcoat color eventually). Although many will endorse excellent results painting the entire hull, I've read several posts that say they wouldn't ever want to do it again because it was so much work.

I'll be watching for posts from some of the creative folks on this board as well.

Good luck.
