the joints between the sheets of plywood that is my floor have come loose. is there a way to refasten them with out ruining the carpeting on it. the subfloor joists are made of aluminum, the screws that i used to attach to the floor are coated coarse thread wood deck screws, and i think that the heads may have popped off due to the motion of the boat in the water.

Hi. What kind of boat are you working on here? There are lots of people to help, but we're going to have to picture what you're talking about, or at least I do. Please give us just a little more detailed information on this one. Thanks.

I'd sooner think that because you used Wood Screws,... They've pulled Thru the Aluminum Joists,........

Either Way,........

You've either got to Screw Through the Carpet,.. Or Pull it Up,+ Start Again...........

Party Barge,

Cut a slit with a sharp knife where you need to work, make it only as long as you need to either retap or self tap, do not use wood screw, use pan head metal screws (self tapping much easier).

Make sure everything is dry when you do this, you can then glue the slit back together with some carpet glue, if you are carefull you will never see the cut.

While the glue is setting apply pressure to the seam. Carpet people glue seams all the time, this is effectively what you are doing. If you like you can use carpet tape under the seam to hold things in place. You can always check with the local carpet people for the best technique.

Peace.

Ed.
