hello i am posting on be half off my friend, he bought a 1978 tiara 255 fishing boat the engine is in good running condition, the owner said the trsnsome area was surmerg with water getting in by the bellows booth, the whole boat did not sumerg, with the engine sitting in the middle there are two side peices on both sides sopose we cut those peices out would we find water in there are maybe foam the back sits realy low , any info will be great thanks,

Longest sentence on earth. The boat is a 78. You stand a good chance of having some soaked foam. That didn't happen overnight, though. If the foam is soaked, it's been wet for a long, long time. Water intrusion takes quite some time to happen. It would explain the boat sitting low in the water, though.

thanks . ??? so if we take the gas tank up, wil we be able to see the foam from there??<br /><br />or we might have to cut in the hull.

Tow the boat to a marina and ask them where to use a 1" holesaw to find the wet foam. That is why a working bilge pump is needed.

up date guys, well we use a hole saw and drill a hole in the floor right over the section close to the transom water just spew out lots of water.<br /><br />so we just took part of the floor up, from the driver seat all the way back to the transom, <br /><br />all the foam was soak to the bone, so now we got all the foam out, ???? is it a we put back foam in it????<br /><br />also what perpose the foam for??<br /><br /><br />the way they make this stringer partition to pour the foam it not made out of wood. the partition is like fiberglass fish well so the water that was there has no wood to rot only the floor wood is a little water soak.<br /><br /><br />so waht is it a must we put back new foam???<br /><br />where do we get the foam from<br /><br />any step by step how to do it thanks much, sorry for the long thread.

What ever way you think will work . DO NOT squirt in liquid foam that expands in place. No one alive is probably going to guess right on how much to put in. Too little , no float. Too much, bulging floors and or bottom of the hull. I would go for cut to shape pieces of CLOSED CELL glued in with Silicone Rubber bead runs about 1 foot apart running from the keel outward. No need to squash the 1/2" thick beads flat as possible. Or you won't have drainage under the foam that allows drying out when needed. You can glue 2 or 3 --1/4" thick lengths of plastic strips to help prevent squashing too much. Leave about 1" clearence all around the foam edges and the top also . For letting anything to dry out if rain, spray, spilled drinks ,oil, gasoline or whatever happens. Take a hose to it and let the bilge pump pump it out. then hand sponge it dry to prevent mold stink from starting..

Getting old is bad. If you completly seal this up again. Leave a removable plug and hole at the very back and the lowest point. So when there is water in there or you just want to check it out. All you do is raise the bow higher and the water runs back and collects at the hole.
