hi,

I just bought a 12' landau aluminum boat and the interior is pretty bad. All of the paint or whatever it is is peeling off. the previous owner had outdoor carpet in the boat, but ripped it out beacause it was mildewed. I want to either paint the interior or install outdoor carpet in it, but I don't know which one to do. I want to use it for fishing so I would like to install some carpet for soundproofing. Before I do either of these I think I should get the peeling paint out but I don't know how to go about that. Any suggestions on how to get the paint out would be very helpful. Thanks Alot

I think that waves and chop and ripples hitting a Aluminum hull is one of the sweetest sounds on God's blue earth!

Remove as much as possible. A wire wheel sometimes works well especially if the glue is really dried out.

Ok, i have a couple of those and will try to get it off. I tried sanding it, but that didn't help at all. So I will try this. If I con't get much off will it matter? Will I still be able to put down more carpet glue without trouble? Also, what kind of adhesive or glue do you reccomend for bonding carpet to Aluminum

It will not matter if you do not get it all off, it just may look a little "lumpy" under your carpet.

I think I would talk to some carpet people about the recommended adhesive. I've just always used waterproof porch and deck adhesive.

i saw this carpet glue on west marine that was made by a brand called syntec. But i don't know if that would be good or not. Maybe Ill just do what you said and use deck adhesive.
