Transom Protection

On my 1988 Sunbird I/O, they just cut through the transom for the outdrive, and apparently did nothing to protect the raw plywood edge. Plywood may be pressure treated and is in good shape. Should I do something to protect the exposed plywood?

Re: Transom Protection

If you have the driveline Out of it Now,+ Good access to it,.... Sure,.. Seal it Up.......

Sunbirds are Entry Level boats,.... I Really Doubt that's a P/T Plywood Transom........

Thanks guys. I haven't figured out what yet, but I'll coat it with something. I may have some urathane paint.

Re: Transom Protection

Sunbird may have used Greenwood pt ply in their boats. Many entry level boats still use it.

Re: Transom Protection

If you've got some time try CEPS from The Rot Doctor at www.rotdoctor.com Its a very thin penertating epoxy that seeps into wood and protects. You can then seal it up with urathane or something else.

A transom is something you don't can't overprotect. I've had 2 OB's and an I/O had to replace the transom in all of them.
