I was wondering if anyone could recommend a paint sprayer that can be used for small jobs, like bottom painting and painting a fence. Don't know squat about them, but thought many here have used them. Anyone use the airless ones? Opinions/reviews welcome!

Thanks guys!

Re: Sprayer?

Steelhead, there are sprayers and there are sprayers. There was a thread recently, by deputydawg, about a Wagner airless sprayer. Personally, unless things have changed drastically, I wouldn't own one let alone try to use it.

Most non latex small jobs can be effectively done with one of these. Binks style knockoff spray gun Everyone should have one in their inventory.

If you need to do a fair amount of latex, such as fencing, your house, etc and do it reliably you would need to step up to none of these. Graco STX

Believe me, I've tried the shortcuts and they are frustrating.

i bought my graco at the home inprovement store, $200 or so. also my pressure washer. watch the paint dept. end of year and model changes, and there rentals, are put up at greatly discounted prices. i was luck as mine were model changes, all they changed were the graphics.

Thanks TD. Good idea. I am trying to get out of this as affordably as possible considering it won't be used all that often. Plus we are expecting out first child on the 27th and trying to save $$$.

If you are only going to use it once or twice, go for a good quality rental unit. For the boat, I would use one of the siphon-cup spray guns though. The airless units are mainly for doing house and fence painting. I agree with Boomyal on the Wagners, just fodder for the landfill if you ask me.

Thanks Studly. Any idea what type of HP compressor it would take to use the siphon-cup spray gun for boat bottom or otherwise?

Nominal Steelhead. Any thing that will deliver 6 cfm at 40 psi, at least for short bursts.

compressor

you'd never regret having one of these anyway.

Re: Sprayer?

you won't find a better deal than that $99. and get 2 of the 25' hoses @3.99 and use a nipple to couple them together. would recommend a water separator. while your at it order a impact gun, never thought i need one, now use it all the time.
