Earlier in February I brought home a 1961 Mirrocraft (I have posted a few pics on here), and a 1962 Evinrude. I have restored the evinrude ( Fisherman ), and now am starting to redo the boat. Not really a restoration, but just me trying to make this thing look better.

Here are a few pics (thumbnails) of the boat when I bought it.

As you might be able to tell from the pics there is a noticeable hook in the hull from this thing smashing into something. I probably will leave that as is, since it isnt a performance machine or anything.....also the piece of wood on the transom is pretty loose and is split. I am making a new one out of solid oak, that I am staining and sealing. Heres a pic of the new transom.

Here is the boat after I ground off all of the loss paint. I then etched the bare aluminum with a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar.

Here is the boat after I painted it. I chose to go with "aluminum" as the color. Aside from the paint I used being impossible to get off my hands and pieces of my paint sprayer, I am pleased with the results. Just have to put new registration numbers on it an I'm good to go.
Looks great. I have been working a deal on a small aluminum boat myself. It has been neglected and you pic's have inspired me to re-do the motor too. Was the vinigar enough to etch the hull?

Bob

take a look at mine, way down the page. "1960 Lonestar 55 15 rude finished for now" i've ordered the 3rd seat. to complete it. taking it to the Fl Keys in August, to explorer the flats, coves, and inlets. where i don't dare take the 23' Chris Craft.

Bob I think the vineagar was enough to do it.....I etched it twice. I don't know how much of a difference it made though. If you are, worried about it I would just wipe it down with some acetone. I didnt have any handy, and the hardware store only had it in gallon tins. I didnt need that much nor did I want to pay that much for it. If I remember correctly I did wipe the motor down with the last of the stuff I had before I primed that.

Although I think I will put a few more coats of stain on the new transom.........got to get it darker I think.

Finished pics.....only thing left that I want to do is lay a bead of silicone around the transom that I made.

now if you can figure out a way to put wheels on each side of the stearn, that would flip up when in the water. looks like the roller worked well on the T bar.
