I have a 2001 bayliner 195 classic with a 3.0 mercruiser engine and would like to put a 5.7L engine in it. Does anybody know if this will work with the outboard alpha 1 and the mounting to the hull of the boat. Any info you can suggest will help me greatly.

Re: 3.0 mercruiser to 5.7L conversion

5.7's got the same drive but its likely geared different in the lower unit I think, and whatever the boat equivalent of a bellhousing and flywheel is those are likely different too. Dunno about the spline count on the input shaft and coupler either. i think the wiring and linkages may be compatible though, just make sure you get a totally complete drop in mercury marine 5.7 not a car one.

Almost better to find a complete engine and outdrive from a junk boat and use that than just the engine. I think the hole in the hull and physical mounting is the same for all alpha 1's though.

Also don't forget your going from one exhaust manifold to two thatll take some fiddling to get the exhaust worked out.

Plus itll sit a tid bit *** heavy in the water, a 5.7 weights a bit more than a 3.0

too bad its not a 4.3, those are just 5.7's with the front 2 cylinders missing so cept for the flywheel and the gearing its all identical for the most part.

hmm I kinda rambled a bit there

While it IS physically Possible,............

A New Boat would be Cheaper,+ Awhole Lot Easier..........

Enjoy What you Have,......... Or,... Trade Up.......
