Hello,

I want to purchase a boat( i live in kentucky. i was in Michigan on crystal lake for a few days & really enjoyed the water so i am researching boat slips i can lease on an annual basis (looking in florida, but not wedded to it) where it can stay in water all yr (i think) & fly to florida once a month & spend the weekend on it & enjoy the local sence. From the prospective of seasoned & veteran boaters, am i crazier than a loon??

Thank you for your comments & input. It is greatly appreciated.

Try a place like www.sharedyachts.com
I heard from a friend that this is the newest thing where you time share a specific boat.
Boat ownership takes time and money...sometimes lots of it.
I would only do what you said in your post if the marina was hands on and trustworthy to watch your investment.

Just my 3 cents.
I own a 25' Pursuit Center Console and love it.

Re: extremely dumb question

Some issues to consider: 1. lease of slip may be costly and availability difficult, 2. barnacle growth on the hull, 3. regular bottom cleaning and bottom paint jobs (to prevent No. 2), 4. possible extra steps to be taken in case a hurricane comes, 5. theft, and 6. insurance costs. Some people take these problems in stride, others get really tired of the hassle. Just trying to help.

Mike,I think you will find you can charter a boat for less than it will cost you to buy and maintain one. MichaelR's sharedyachts.com sounds interesting.........one the other hand, if you can afford to fly down to fla. once a month. maybe cost isn't an issue.........

Re: extremely dumb question

Mike, Kentucky has Cumberland Lake near the Tenn. border. It is a huge lake and has coves large enough to waterski easily. I did find the weather to be too muggy and hot in August, however. Anyway, it is likely you could berth a boat(of any size) there.
