I'm wanting to buy a fish finder w/gps and want to get the best unit in the $300 to $400 price range. Can anyone give me any advice on what to buy? I keep coming back to the Lowrance M68C but I'm concerned about the power output 800W. Is this going to be good enough to get good detail? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Lowrance M68C?

I have one and the only problem I have is the small screen. I usually fish in water no deeper than 65 feet but is usually very muddy and have compared it with other peoples high $$$ units with exactly the same results. For the money you cant beat it.

Re: Lowrance M68C?

SeanTN,<br />If you can live without color, Eagle (made by Lowrance)has a line of SONAR/GPS units available. The Fishelite 320 and 480 could be considerations. These have a 5" diagonal screen as compared to 3.5" on the M686. <br />Although these units have an internal map, they are SD/MM card capable. Aside from having the ability to run custom maps, the units can be updated by downloading free software updates as they come available. Keeps your unit current with enhancements & bug fixes. Have you tried Lowrance and Eagle's emulators?<br /><br /> http://www.lowrance.com/Software/PCSoftware/demos.asp <br /><br /> http://www.eaglegps.com/Downloads/Emulators/default.htm
