So i hooked up my new volt gauge (didn't have one before) to the fuse panel but i've noticed its always on. The lights in all the gauges turn on and off with the key. So can I just splice off from the wire that runs the gauge lights to the + on my volt meter?

Thanks in advance

In your case Yes! Just curious -- were the gauge lights always wired so they came on with the key? Normally they are on a separate switch.

Re: how to wire volt gauge

yes the gauges i had before were wired to have gauges and gauge lights work when the key was on so I spliced into those wires.

I wasn't sure if I could do that with the tach. and the voltmeter and wondered why the gauge light wires were seperate from the main + wire for each gauge.

So my volt meter will read correctly if i spice into any switched wire?
