I have a 9.9 johnson outboard on my pontoon. I have to store the boat in the water over the winter. (i live in missouri) Many folks here do it, some say to leave the motor down in the water, others say to tilt it up, pour antifreeze in it and put a bag or something on the lower unit. Does anyone have suggestions or advise? Thanks!

Most leave it down. With a 9.9 I would just pull it off the boat for the winter and store in the garage.

Ditto Deej's garage storage idea. Or if you are like me, you'll try clamping it to the table in the dining room, just to see how long you can get away with it before woman reigns supreme.

welocme to iboats. Taking it off is good but it's a lot of trouble if you'll be using the boat during the winter. Leave it down in the water; the powerhead will drain, and the LU won't freeze in unfrozen water.

Pull the fuel hose off. run it till it sputters. take the engine off and lay it on a old rug on a hard surface higher than the floor. If you get water in the boat. This stops the freezing problem. theft might mean a steel lock and cable.
