I'm having a problem synchronizing an Evinrude Lightwin (3hp, 3042 1962) outboard. I'm supposed to have the throttle plate move when the follower is centred on the mark on the cam, right? The trouble is I can't find any mark anywhere on the cam. Anyone else have this problem, or any idea how to solve it?

It should be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch away from the edge of the cam on the side of the manual starter.
In the volume one Seloc on page 5-28 there is "the number seven location" with a picture of the exact spot underneath.Your adjustment would be as "per note one"
hope this helps.

The very picture I've been looking at. :(

There seems to be nothing in that area. The cam is different than pictured though, it's bent brass sheet, and that one looks like cast aluminum. It adjusts as per note 1 fine, just no mark. I'll try a little brasso next. Mabey I'll be able to find a cam w/ a mark at the junkyard...

Brasso didn't find anything new, it's like it was never stamped in there. Not even a nick... :(
Could someone please measure the mark to the end for me? The cam I've got is made of brass sheet, and drops about 1.5" from the armature plate on two 'legs'. One leg is at the far advanced (WOT) end and the other is about where I figure the timing mark should be.
Thanks for your time, I'm really stuck on this one!
