trim wont go up

I have a 81 75 hp evinrude(sport) that i cant get the trim to go up from the switch. I have chased wires,replaced the solenoid,checked the switch just cant seem to be able to figure this one out.

it will go up if i cross the solenoid posts motor works fine just not up with the switch i have checked the switch and replaced the solenoid twicw nothing

jwill,<br /><br />That's good news. At least the motor works.<br /><br />Is this a "new" switch?<br /><br />The switch needs to be a "momentary" ON-OFF-ON type. You have three wires going to the switch. One for up. One for down. Another for "common".<br /><br />You should be able to jump the common to either the up or down wires and make it activate.

I have checked the switch it seems to be good it seems to be bad around the solenoid i am baffled

jwill,<br /><br />The system is not that complicated. All the solonoids do is transfer low amperage from the switch to high amperage for the motor.<br /><br />If you can make it work by jumping the solonoids, then the problem is the solonoids themselves or the signal from the switch.<br /><br />Have you tried swapping the solonoids? If you do and the engine now only goes down, you know one of the solonoids is not working.

it only has one solenoid and it is for the up side that is what gets me i have replaced the solenoid twice and it can be jumped at the solenoid to make it go up that is the strange thing about it i have chased every wire they have continuity the switch does to thats why i am so lost on this.

Is this boat "new" to you?<br /><br />My '83' has two solonoids.<br /><br />Don't trust the switch. Jump the wires on the back of it.

i have had it for awhile but i didnt buy it new i bought it from a friends dad i talked to a shop about it and he said that the upside of the trim is the only side that has a solenoid the down run direct to the motor.

That makes sense. I still wouldn't trust the switch.

Jwill.... That solenoid has two 3/8" hex nut connectors. One is for the 12 volt signal coming in to the solenoid when you toggle the trim switch to the up position. The other 3/8" connection is to go to ground.<br /><br />Since you have replaced the solenoid, I would assume that your problem is either that the 12 volt signal is not being applied to the solenoid when you toggle the trim switch to the up position (broken wire etc), or the ground wire from the solenoid is not actually attached to a ground. Let us know.

thanks too all of you for your help i think that i am going to replace the switch and the wires coming in if that doesnt work i dont know what i am going to do thanks again
